Let down by congresswoman
Sue Lani Madsen is either naive, disingenuous, or both. On March 4, she wrote “… to attend Conversations with Cathy. No mystery. Not necessary to agree with the congresswoman. Just be engaged with district staff so they know who you are, where you are, your interest area and how to contact you.”
As someone whose 94-year-old mother, a double amputee who spent over two ours dressing herself and risked a wheelchair fall on an ice-covered February day to hand deliver a letter of personal concern about health care, I discovered not a single word of this is true. A legislative aide heard us out, invited us both to attend a “Conversation with Cathy” on Feb. 20, and took our information to phone us with details. Then, nothing.
My mother again laboriously dressed herself to look presentable on the 20th, just in case. We thought perhaps the event was canceled, but then McMorris Rodgers’ Twitter feed mentioned all the great feedback she got at her “Conversation.” It was clear from my mother’s letter that she was not likely to agree with Cathy’s positions. Draw your own conclusion. Disinvited.
And Madsen wonders why people protest. Ask my mom.
