Better way to secure border

A recent letter pointed out that the “wall” on our Southern border will be only a “statement.” I agree with that idea, and I think that is precisely Mr. Trump’s purpose. A statement.

But if it is truly just a statement, then I also agree that a plain picket fence, or maybe even a simple barbed wire fence would be as much of a statement as something that Mr. Trump claims will cost $12 billion and which experts claim will cost much, much more.

I’d say that’s a mighty expensive statement. I’d say that giving a few hundred, or even thousand people employment to patrol the border would be a much wiser expenditure of the taxpayers’ money. Or of anybody’s money. Even Mexico’s.
