PFPD: Don’t break into car to save dog
From Post Falls PD Facebook page:
There’s a post circulating on social media about what to do if you see a dog locked in a hot vehicle. The post asserts that if you take a picture of the dog and vehicle and screenshot the temperature on your smartphone, you can break into the vehicle without being charged with criminal damage.
Post Falls Police DOES NOT recommend doing this. DO NOT break into the vehicle or remove the dog because you can be charged for bre aking and entering. Law enforcement should always be contacted before anything is done.
IF YOU SEE A DOG in a vehicle in Post Falls and are concerned for the safety of the animal due to hot weather, please call the police department on either the nonemergency line at 208-773-3517 or 911 if it’s an emergency.
Please provide a license plate number, description, and where the vehicle is located. One of our animal safety officers will be dispatched to handle the situation.
