Redux: Sheriff wasn’t laughing

In spring 1992, then Shoshone County sheriff Frank Crnkovich was battling against corruption charges in court, which he would later beat, re: the FBI raid on gambling establishments the previous year. Here’s the one-liner that I wrote for Huckleberries 25 years ago, almost to the day:

“Some Wallace bar patrons are referring to embattled Shoshone County Sheriff Frank Crnkovich as “the sheriff of Naughtyham.”

  • BTW, you can read about the FBI bust that shut down illegal gambling in the Silver Valley in Wayne Manis’ “Street Agent.” And you can read about the prostitution still allowed in Wallace up until that time in Heather Branstetter’s book, “Selling Sex in the Silver Valley: A History of Doing Pleasure.”
