‘13 Reasons Why’ beneficial

About a month ago a new Netflix show called “13 Reasons Why” came out and since then it has sparked a bit of controversy. A lot of people are saying that the show glorifies suicide and should be taken down from Netflix. Even mental health experts are saying it is not safe for those dealing with thoughts of suicide.

However, that is not the case. Although it is true, those struggling with suicidal thoughts should not watch it, what the shows is really saying is that suicide should not be the answer. It’s depicting that it deeply affects those that are abandoned. It tries to show us the mess that is left behind when someone decides to take their life and what it can do to those that surrounded them.

Although there are graphic scenes, the creators were trying to show that struggling with a mental illness is not easy and sometimes people take drastic measures that can in turn not only hurt themselves but others around them.

It is not an easy thing to watch or talk about, but the show is definitely not trying to glamorize suicide or anything included with it. It is trying to inform.
