Redux: Remembering Opal, Vivian
From my Huckleberries column files 25 years ago (May 4, 1992):
Lynne Hutton was among the crowd left with bittersweet thoughts remembering liberal activists Opal Brooten and Vivian Butterfield. The lifelong chums were killed in a car wreck last week near Lewiston. “I was watching them at a meeting and thinking, ‘I hope I’m like that when I’m old,’” Hutton said of the two white-haired volunteers. And I thought, “What would one of them do if the other goes?’”
