Face constituents

Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers is back in town for another recess. After her vigorous support of the House GOP health care bill, she is obligated to stand before her constituents in an open public town hall, as her colleague Rep. Labrador recently observed, it is “my job to have discussion and debate with you.”

No more hiding behind invitational, sparsely attended meetings of vetted participants and softball interviews on talk radio; it is well past time to be accountable to the people of the 5th District. Given that the congresswoman supports stripping health care from people without employer-subsidized health care, gutting the public and mental health infrastructure for Spokane County and overburdening hospital emergency rooms as the costly default point of entry for the uninsured, surely she can stand before us and explain why her plan is in our best interests.
