Poor parking solution

Is Spokane encouraging and building a strong business base for our residents?

Currently, you are unable to street park in downtown over two hours. This applies to employees working downtown as well as shoppers wanting to shop, eat or watch a movie. Alternative? Park in the parking garage, an expensive alternative for everyone, particularly lesser paid and part-time employees. The city gets its money anyway, so what gives them the right to dictate who should park where? This is not a solution.

The street department has destroyed every street, making it completely dysfunctional to get around. This is destroying downtown businesses. Now they are making Monroe into three-lanes, despite most of the business owners in opposition. See what they did to South Monroe, at Huckleberries, to preview the Monroe Street disaster. Most of the year we have ugly, dead vegetation lining South Monroe Street, and the most frustrated drivers in the city. Maybe use the funds to repair the streets we have.

The Parks Department wonders why no one responds to their proposals? Here’s a clue – you keep giving your projects to the same firm. Where is the support for spreading the work.

Spokane needs a city government overhaul.
