Burke a better choice

Go for Kate Burke. As a neighborhood person, I’m very concerned about making sure the neighborhood voice is included. Neither candidate fits this bill, in my estimation. Kate has little knowledge of the neighborhood system but she has talked about making sure it has a voice, so I’m guessing she’s willing to learn. Tim Benn, however, at our forum in the Valley said he thought the neighborhood council system was too strong because only a few people have a voice for so many. That scares me.

In any system with voting privileges that is true. Those that participate make choices for those who don’t (so vote!). That doesn’t mean destroying the system is the answer; it means being clever and creative about stimulating participation.

I believe that Kate may be open to new ideas, I’m not so sure about Tim. Tim speaks as a chair of a neighborhood – so that is doubly concerning!

Go for Kate.
