Hit piece abhorrent
We should have all been concerned when we discovered the hit piece on City Council candidate Matthew Howes (developed and funded by a local fire department union) in our mail boxes, especially when we found out it was untrue. Councilwoman Candace Mumm denies her involvement in the mailing, even though it was clearly intended to damage her opponent.
Here’s a couple other things to consider. First, Mumm’s proxy didn’t just attack Matthew Howes politically, they attempted to take away his livelihood, and that’s abhorrent. This is an unspoken threat to anyone considering serving in an elected position in Spokane. I have ServeSafe advanced food safety training, I’ve dined at Adelo’s, and it’s my opinion that Adelo’s is a safe place to eat.
Second is the role of the firefighter union. If Mumm is re-elected to the City Council, I believe she should be forced to recuse herself from any discussion or voting associated with the Fire Department.
