Protect our children

In response to Shawn Vestal’s article regarding vaccinations (“Parental rights’ proposal is unsafe,” Oct. 1). It is frightening to think that there are council members in Spokane Valley who believe they have the authority to sidestep county and federal statutes regarding public health.

Caleb Collier, Valley City Council member seeking to retain his seat for Position 2, lists his work experience as six years as EMT advanced Spokane County. I can’t imagine that he did not learn about medical asepsis in his training. Councilman Ed Pace, Position 4, says he is listening to his constituents. But what about more than a handful of constituents? He stated he wants to spark discussion so that proclamations between the health department and schools can be rewritten.

I trust the Spokane County Regional Health District and all the professionals who have gone before us to respect and honor the recommendations regarding vaccines. I am a polio victim. It is a lifelong battle. No one should have to live with the fears of the dreaded diseases that scientists worked so hard at to protect society.

Please do not re-elect Ed Pace or Caleb Collier. Please protect our children.
