Less coverage, more action

Enough with reporting mass murders. All it does is raise the fear level, increase gun sales and increase circulation. According to MassShootingTracker.org, there have been 344 mass shootings in 2017 (at the time of this writing), including the Texas attack, killing a total of 489 people. In addition, 1,675 have been injured in the same category.

We hear words like, “Let’s have a moment of silence in remembrance” or “our hearts and prayers go out to the families and the community.” The president says now is not the time to talk about gun control. Rep. McMorris Rodgers said, in 2015, instead of gun control, they would propose a mental health bill. We are still waiting for the bill.

The law that was set to begin in December was recently rolled back by Congress and the president. That law required the Social Security Administration to report people who receive disability benefits with a mental health condition to the FBI’s background check system. The database would determine eligibility for buying a firearm.

The reality is more mass murderers are waiting in the wings. Stop providing 15 minutes of fame. Demand that Congress address this issue now.

Otherwise, your continuing to show the carnage or grief serves no purpose.
