Regulation isn’t unconstitutional

Lori Taylor (Oct. 30 letter) and others who rail about the Second Amendment consistently make two mistakes. First, they can’t discuss the entire amendment. Second, they won’t discuss the full Constitution. It is clear that the word “militia” appears in Article 1, Article 2 and the Second Amendment because the right is necessary to have militias to be called up as needed.

The word “regulated” also allows the executive and judicial branches to - gasp! - regulate gun ownership for that purpose. Getting national, consistent gun laws similar to those in Western nations with far lower murder and suicide rates isn’t a violation of the Second Amendment; it’s only a violation of the gun industry’s profit motive.
