Disingenuous
Regarding the post-election comments of our state Senator Mark Schoesler (R-Ritzville). It is so disingenuous for him and Rep. Dye to say that the universities, including WSU, need to be ‘fiscally responsible.’ And even more so: “The party that froze tuition and cut it…becomes the minority.” Let’s rewrite that with the truth: “The party that refused to support our youth by funding education, both K-12 and college; and that then ‘gave permission’ to raise tuition to make up the lost tax revenues, becomes the minority.”
So disingenuous to refuse to fund education, then blame the universities for not managing their finances. It is easy to calculate the benefit to society of the research and teaching done at universities. But our Republican friends continue to follow their terribly selfish ideology that we should not have public education, or that society should not share the cost of education. I ask all my Republican friends in Eastern Washington — look at the facts, look at the economic numbers, and ask yourself, “Do these people really represent me, represent our district and our people and our Universities and our values?” I think you will find that they do not, and you can change that next year.
