Ban the Box

On Nov. 27, the Spokane City Council will vote on the Fair Chance Ordinance (Ban the Box). The American Bar Association has documented 27,254 state occupational licensing restrictions nationwide for people with a criminal record.

Getting a job will be even more difficult by refusing to ban the box.

Spokane is beginning to reconstruct how it deals with re-entry by implementing the Jail Transitions Pathway HUB at the Philanthropy Center on Riverside. By implementing this ordinance, these formerly incarcerated who are making an effort, and are our neighbors, can succeed.
