Save $2 million

If I had $2 million, how would I spend it for the citizens of Spokane? Obvious answer: continue to fix our roads. Second answer: have our police be more aggressive in fighting property crime.

How would I not spend $2 million dollars? Tearing up Monroe Street. It is one our better roads in town. Other writers are correct: If we want to increase pedestrian safety there, simply add the pedestrian stop lights like those that function beautifully on Ruby and Hamilton.

Monroe is one of the main arterials that stretch from the downtown area to Highway 395. The “road diet” (cutting the lanes from 4 to 2) makes no sense. And what happens to the businesses that will suffer loss while this nonsense happens? The city stands to lose tax revenue while this destruction is going on.

Take the grant money and give it back. Save the taxpayers $2 million and leave the road and the businesses along Monroe alone.
