Kerby reprimanded over handling of teacher evaluations

Idaho state Rep. Ryan Kerby, R-New Plymouth, a retired school district superintendent, has been issued a reprimand by a review panel of the state’s Professional Standards Commission over his handling of teacher evaluation data. Kerby strenuously denied wrongdoing, and claimed the complaint was “cooked up” against him for political reasons. Idaho Education News reports that the panel found that Kerby “willfully or deliberately” reported to the state that all 59 of New Plymouth’s teachers were equally proficient in 2014-15. Teacher evaluation data has been at issue in recent years because of the role it will play, under the state’s new career ladder, in helping determine whether teachers get raises. Kerby’s attorney, Dan Bloxsom, took issue with the EdNews report, writing in an open rebuttal letter that he considers Kerby a “truly innocent and righteous man.”
