Long-distance hikers tell how it’s done Oct. 14 in CdA

The Triple Crown for long-distance hikers includes the Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Divide Trail and Appalachian Trail.

HIKING — Three “triple crown” hikers and one “double-triple crowner” will be among the presenters at the Fall Hikers Fest on Oct. 14 at Lake City Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Rd. in Coeur d’Alene.

This is a place to learn from those who have learned the hard way. Achieving a triple crown distinction requires thru-hiking the Pacific Crest, Continental Divide and the Appalachian trails.

The insight gained from listening to these veterans and asking them questions can be a big boost to hikers with more modest long-distance hiking goals.

The accomplished hikers also will detail their preparations and insights on hiking the Florida National Scenic Trail, and routes in Patagonia and Israel in a program sponsored by the American Long-Distance Hiking Association-West .

Cost, including lunch, is $20 for the event that runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
