Wildfire and gunfire

The wildfires in Northern California are shocking in their intensity and devastation. If we were to react by wanting to discuss how to reduce wildfire, would it be politicizing wildfire? Would it be insensitive and heartless to react to the horror by looking for ways to avoid it in the future? Do we have to wait for the next firestorm? Can we only offer our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time to those suffering the consequences?
