Trump offends Constitution

Every American, no matter your political persuasion, should be alarmed. President Trump, although having sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution, on Oct. 11, ignored his oath of office and directly attacked the First Amendment. His first tweet rhetorically asked, “at what point is it appropriate to challenge (NBC’s and the Network’s FCC) License(s) to broadcast news)? Bad for country!”

Later that day, President Trump tweeted, “Network news has become so partisan, distorted and fake that licenses must be challenged, and if appropriate, revoked. Not fair to public!”

President Trump simply doesn’t like what the press is publishing about him. Political speech, however, whether you are left, right, corporate, libertarian, or dissident, has always been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, and, I would venture to say, always will be upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, even a rightist U.S. Supreme Court.

The president’s attack on the First Amendment by threatening to take away the ability of any company or person’s ability to disagree with him with political speech is a threat to every American. As he has violated his oath of office, he is no longer fit to serve and should resign.
