Why the misinformation?

In recent fliers and statements by opponents of Proposition 2, themes of misinformation keep recurring. Repeatedly statements are made that passage of Proposition 2 would greatly impact all rail transportation, including agriculture, resulting in increased transportation by truck with resultant traffic congestion. Nonsense.

In addition, opponents content that Proposition 2 would not increase Spokane safety. Poppycock.

The very volatile oil passing through Spokane on elevated tracks is currently conditioned to reduce its volatility after it passes through Spokane and reaches refineries on the West Coast.

The goal of Proposition 2 is not to shift the shipping of oil from rail to truck. It is to require the volatile oil be conditioned prior to rail shipping rather than after the fact.

Proposition 2 is, in fact, about fire safety, which is why firefighters endorse it. I cannot help but wonder, “Why the misinformation?”
