Newly discovered foothills plant species to be named after Cecil Andrus

A newly discovered plant species will be named after the late Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus after a fundraising effort raised $10,000 for researchers’ work, Boise State Public Radio reports. After scientists at BSU and the College of Idaho who discovered the plant offered the naming rights in exchange for a donation to fund further plant research, friends and well-wishers of Andrus raised the money. The yellow, flowering plant is common in the Military Reserve area in the Boise foothills; Andrus, who lived nearby, often walked his dogs there.
