Even-handed condemnation

Our president, Donald Trump, has been criticized for condemning violence on both sides of the Charlottesville fracas.

Some Unite the Right people were racists and bigots, but not all. With the help of the ACLU, Unite the Right had a permit to assemble and exercise its rights. Most of us would disagree with their speech, but as many people have said many times, speech we all agree with doesn’t need First Amendment protections.

The counter-protesters included the Antifa, Black Lives Matter, Redneck Revolt and other agitators who have stifled speech and disrupted Trump rallies, college presentations and other peaceful events. They were armed with bricks, baseball bats, bags and bottles of urine and feces, and at least one improvised flame- thrower. These people did not have a permit, but blocked streets, disrupted people not involved with the rally and generally caused mayhem.

Thank you, President Trump, for your even-handed condemnation.
