Symphony should play again

I am just one of many Spokane-area parents who were responsible and kept our young child indoors last Sunday when we were told that it was ill-advised to bring them out under the unhealthy air conditions. We had been excited because our son just turned 1 and loves classical music, so naturally the outdoor concert was a perfect venue.

I thought the Spokane Symphony would make a wise decision and reschedule the concert so as to be inclusive of all groups, and so that it would not cause folks to go needlessly out of doors, but I was sadly mistaken.

Even while many members of the community stated online that they were precluded from the event because of the smoke and countless more who did not attend because they heeded the air alert warnings, the symphony insisted on forging ahead. It put its players’ health at risk and the many people who couldn’t resist attending. Especially those who brought their children anyway, because they wanted to enrich their lives with music. Perhaps the symphony would like to provide a free concert opportunity to all of us who were prudent with our children’s health.
