Spending an expression of free speech

Donald Camp’s letter “CMR still accepting NRA funds,” (April 7) is one-sided. According to Politifact (Daily Wire, March 1), between 1998-2016, the NRA spent $200 million on ads, lobbying, candidates who agree with their views, and PACs.

In comparison, labor unions spent $1.7 billion in one year, 2016, on the same things. This is according to the National Institute for Labor Relations Research. Unions spent $2.2 billion in 2008 and in 2012, $1.7 billion. Planned Parenthood spent $34 million between 2012-2016.

Bottom line, organizations like the NRA and labor unions give money to candidates who represent their views. It is an expression of free speech.
