Sue Lani Madsen on SNAP

Once again, Republicans are busy trying to sell a change in the social safety net that will harm the most vulnerable in the U.S., and Spokesman-Review columnist Ms. (Sue Lani) Madsen beats the drum with specious arguments (“Sensible reforms need to be part of farm bill,” April 21, 2018).

The SNAP (food stamp) program currently in the conservative cross-hairs works quite well, thank you very much, and their attempt to couple needed changes to SNAP with work requirements is just plain nasty. Last year they attempted to eliminate funding for Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) before backing down when faced with public outrage. Then they pass a tax bill piling on benefits to the wealthy and tossing the rest of us a couple of table scraps.

I would encourage my fellow citizens to look very closely at the carefully crafted points made by Ms. Madsen, and Rep McMorris Rodgers; they are misleading, deceptive, and just plain wrong.
