Older white males are lost

As a member of the demographic “older white males,” I find myself questioning the long-held conventional thinking on society and politics. It is apparent to me that my demographic has lost its way.

The GOP is still viewed as fiscally conservative and socially moderate as they were in the later decades of the 20th century. Democrats are considered far-left radicals bent on destroying the traditional values of family and society. I have reached the conclusion that we are wrong.

The GOP became fixated on denying Obama any success. They even went so far as to vote against bills that they normally would support. The sheer lunacy of this can be explained by the fact that if they couldn’t get a “win” they would make sure the president got a “loss.”

The primaries of 2016 made it worse. The GOP debates had no debating. It became a series of vitriolic personal attacks without any policy content. As a result we were left with a schoolyard bully versus a damaged opponent. We’ve been paying the price ever since.

It is past time for younger generations to take over. We’ve proven we won’t change. You have to. Get involved and vote.
