Brandt’s violations

The Spokesman-Review recently ran an article about Spokane District Court candidate Randy Brandt (“Three vie for open district court seat,” July 26, 2018) wherein his use of the phrase “Elect Judge Brandt” was examined for possible misrepresentation as he is not a judge and lost his last bid for election in 2016.

What the Review did not examine was this candidate’s failure to comply with state law and Public Disclosure Commission regulations requiring timely filing of financial disclosure forms. These forms once submitted are posted online by the PDC to ensure that voters can assess where candidates are raising their money and how it is being spent.

There are strict limits as to the amount of money that can be donated by any one individual and organization. Without this information, the electorate cannot fully assess whether a candidate is complying with state financing laws. It’s ironic to me that a candidate for judicial office would flout the law so openly and brazenly.
