Party branding

Just in the nick of time, a segment of Democrats rebrand themselves as Democratic Socialist, and address members as comrade. Gee whiz, Olly, what could go wrong with using those monikers? Between using the word “socialist” and calling each other “comrade,” this Democrat fringe has given any opponent enough political ammunition to sink any well-intentioned candidacy. The number of porters required to unload the toxic baggage contained in both words outnumbers the quantity of stars in the universe.

Democrats appear to have the intrinsic ability to never miss an opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot. Look, the Democrats/liberals should be branded “Progressives,” and Republicans/conservatives should be branded “Regressives.” Observe the policies introduced by both parties, especially in the recent past, and note that these titles fit the values represented by each party.

Democrats/liberals, get smart and choose a name which doesn’t hearken back to a government which utilized gulags to imprison and torture political dissidents.

Republicans/conservatives, do yourselves a favor and look for compassion and empathy in policy decisions concerning all constituents, not just the really wealthy ones.
