Applause for Spokane’s renewable goal

I applaud the Spokane City Council for its aspirational goal of using only renewable electricity, by 2030.

Initiative 1631 will help them get there.

Initiative 1631 will reduce pollution, put a fee on the largest polluters and invest the funds in clean energy projects such as solar panels on schools. That translates to jobs.

Impacts to low income households will be mitigated and affected workers will be protected.

According to the Department of Ecology, in 2014, the burning of fossil fuels in Spokane County produced an average of 241 tons of health-harming pollution and tens of thousands of tons of greenhouse gases per day.

Initiative 1631 will reduce pollution, create jobs, and protect our children’s future.
