Gonzaga shut down free speech

The recent front page above-the-fold article regarding Gonzaga’s feeble attempt at regulating free speech and thought control for its students was disappointing (“GU rejects request for Shapiro to speak,” Nov. 30).

If you are a parent paying tuition for a college obviously unable to control its students’ behavior and afraid of offering or supporting political commentary or thought on anything other than from the far left, then I suggest you re-think your commitment to this school.

The rationale for denying Ben Shapiro’s appearance is a pathetic, weak-kneed response from a school administration focused more on keeping young minds happy than encouraging critical thought and ideas in a free, safe and open environment. The decision also sounds like something coming from an administration where the inmates are in charge of the asylum — as in direction dictated by select students or student organizations.

Again, as a parent ask yourself what it is you are paying for — a meaningful college education or indoctrination. Your choice, but one does nothing for the future of this country.
