McNamara’s warning

Remember Robert S. McNamara?

He was secretary of defense during the worst of the Vietnam War which, at the time, was widely known as “McNamara’s War.” He knew a thing or two about imposing America’s will on other countries.

Long after the U.S. ended its misadventure in Vietnam, McNamara wrote: “It became clear then, and I believe it is clear today, that military force — especially when wielded by an outside power — cannot bring order in a country that cannot govern itself.”

The U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan has proven McNamara right, over and over again.

Given our Dear Leader’s penchant for deploying military forces on a whim, let’s heed McNamara’s warning and support our troops by not ordering them into dubious battle.
