Sun. column: Reporting system upgrade for Secty of State’s office, Idaho as ‘next Kansas,’ CBD oil trial…

Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence Denney (Betsy Z. Russell)

My Sunday column this week looks at Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence Denney’s request for a budget increase next year of more than 70 percent, with most of the increase coming in a major upgrade to the state’s election software system to allow more transparent reporting of campaign finances, lobbyist records and elections; concerns from House Democrats about Gov. Butch Otter’s proposed tax-cut bill, which the Dems say will “set Idaho up to be the next Kansas ;” and the latest on the state-funded expanded-access program that’s now allowing 34 Idaho children with intractable epilepsy to be treated with a commercial version of the marijuana extract through a drug trial. You can read it here at spokesman.com.
