Levy ripples

I am a current teacher candidate at Adams Elementary, a parent to a child attending Cooper Elementary, and a PTO board member at this same school. My goal in all of these roles is to ensure that every child we serve in our community receives a well-rounded educational experience. For this reason, I fully support the 2018 replacement levy for Spokane Public Schools.

This levy carries no new taxes, but simply replaces our current levy at a lower tax rate. If passed, it will provide funds for extracurricular activities, sports and clubs. Furthermore, it will support counselors, librarians, nurses and behavioral specialists as well as partially fund special education programs. Most importantly, this levy will support elementary content specialists in science, technology, music and art. These courses help develop curiosity, creativity and critical thinking skills in our students.

Just as a stone cast in water creates a ripple effect, so does this levy. It will not only support our students’ educational experiences and growth, it will support our entire community. Our students of today will become citizens of tomorrow. I strongly encourage everyone to vote yes for our kids, for our community and for our future.
