Grief but no action

Wake up Congress, these are your children, too! The U.S. has just experienced yet another violent and unnecessary execution of children in our schools and it’s only mid-February. Valentine’s Day - a day that should have been about love - and Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season, have been forever marked by yet another ambush of kids just trying attend their school.

There is very little likelihood that clueless Congress will ever take concrete action to tighten gun control laws. I salute and embrace Shawn Vestal’s column today (“Another shooting, another bout of paralyzing congressional sorrow,” Feb. 16) pointing to the thinly-veiled so-called “grief” of our Republican-controlled Congress.

Talk is forever cheap and prayers and a moment of silence are futile. Act, Congress, act. Pull yourself away from your love and dependence on the NRA’s deep pockets. Tear up those big checks which are none other than blood money. Our youth beg you. Do the right thing, not the Republican thing. Do it and do it now before we hear yet another school shooting has occurred. Congress, stop your love affair with weapons and do what is right for the health and safety of our children. Now!
