Catch the real Tommy Wiseau on Wednesday

I’ve already posted news that the Magic Lantern will be picking up a run of James Franco’s “The Disaster Artist” on Friday. For anyone who doesn’t know, Franco’s film is a narrative re-creation of how the movie “The Room” was made.

And it’s a good story, filled with pretty much everything that anyone who appreciates true camp could appreciate.

But what about the source material? Sure, it’s one thing to watch a sometimes comic actor such as Franco make a movie that is about a movie — written, directed, financed by and starring Tommy Wiseau — that critics regard as one of the worst ever conceived. But how many among us have actually sat in a theater and watched the original film?

Well, now’s your chance. “The Room” will screen as a special event at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Regal’s Northtown Mall cinemas. As the ad copy reads, “The event will feature Tommy Wiseau commercials, an inside look at a Hollywood screening and the trailer for Tommy and Greg Sestero’s upcoming film ‘Best F(r)iends.’ ”

You’re invited to catch the film, as the ad tells us, “in all its spectacularly insane glory!”
