Yes for Kids Levy
I am an enthusiastic supporter of Spokane Public Schools and the 2018 Educational Programs and Operational Levy.
As a parent of a District 81 graduate and current fifth-grade student, I realize the necessity of supporting schools through the levy. I see positive outcomes from our community’s generous support. I see the hard work of our teachers and support staff making a difference in the lives of our students.
The district website gives information on the levy replacement. An article published mid-November in The Spokesman-Review explained the lower tax rate of the 2018 “replacement” levy. Our schools run on a lean budget, yet provide one of the best educational systems in the state.
Local levy dollars pay for personnel such as counselors and security/resource officers and programs such as music, sports, arts and library. Spokane District 81 achieves high standards in part through levy dollars. This sets our children up for the positive contributions they will make back to our community.
Until the state finds a realistic funding solution, we will continue to need local dollars to educate and support our children. I hope you’ll join me in voting “Yes” to support the renewal of the levy in February.
