Giant U.S. flag posted in Capitol rotunda for opening of legislative session

Idaho Capitol rotunda, Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 (Betsy Z. Russell)

This giant American flag usually hangs in the Capitol rotunda for the 4 th of July, but Senate President Pro-Tem Brent Hill said, “A lot of people aren’t here during the summer.” So he talked with House Speaker Scott Bedke, Gov. Butch Otter and state Administration Director Bob Geddes about getting the flag put up for the first week or two of the legislative session, and now it’s hanging for all to see.

“I just thought it would be nice,” Hill said. “We always put up a state flag on top of each chamber when we’re in session.”

The giant stars and stripes “just reminds us of why we’re here and what we’re doing,” Hill said. “It’s beautiful.”
