It’s all Greek

I enjoyed your recent article about Dan Flambouras and Dan’s Barber Shop (“Cutting hair the old-fashioned way,” Dec. 30).

I prepared tax returns for Dan and Elaine for decades, and I’ll never forget the first time Dan came to my office. He had everything organized and sat across the desk from me, reading his various business expenses. At one point he said “it’s all Greek, you know.” I thought he was just saying “all this tax stuff is just Greek to me.”

Later, when I was preparing his tax return, most of it was written in Greek!

Thereafter, whenever he came to my office, I sat right next to him and wrote notes in the margins of his tax papers, in English.
