Census needed

Your census-hating WaPo editorial “Census questions only divide us” (Jan. 5), ignores the age old credo “birds of a feather flock together.”

There is no place more segregated than a church on Sunday morning.

The American South is exhibit A.

Exhibit B is the waning months of the SoCal Crystal Cathedral that saw standing-room-only Latino services and empty white services.

Koreatown (rivals Idaho or Montana in population), Chinatown and Little Saigon are enormous communities in the minority state of California that has the population of 13 Western states combined. Such Latin American and Asian takeover of formerly white So Cal cities is why the Inland Northwest sees so many whites fleeing here.

The elephant in the census room is why 43 states had fewer white children under 18 in 2010 than the 2000 census? That is one trend Connerly and Gonzalez’s op-ed seeks to whitewash.

We need a census mirror, as ugly as it may be.
