Health over wealth

Thank you for explaining the tax reform bill so well in your letter to the editor (William Van Cleve, “Tax reform benefits,” Jan. 8). Can you as easily explain why the richest country in the world does not have money to provide health coverage for 9 million poor children? Also, please help me understand how our children and grandchildren are going to be able to recover from a 1.5 trillion-dollar addition to the national deficit.

It seems to me you presume we are all concerned with what’s in it for me, while I would argue most are looking at the bigger picture. Corporations and the wealthy did not need or want a tax break. Those dollars could have funded infrastructure projects or health care.

Please broaden your perspective and understand many of us are concerned about our country not just more dollars in our bank account.
