Support school levy renewals

Every couple of years the voters are asked to renew their local funding of our public K-12 school programs. What we are supporting is not a new tax. It replaces, at a lower rate, the expiring 2015 levy. These funds are used to pay for many critical things, including some teaching positions, special education programs, school nurses, counselors, campus safety officers and student activities like band, drama, debate and athletics.

Spokane voters have been very supportive of their public schools. Our community knows how important it is to have strong public school systems. A well-educated workforce keeps jobs in our community and draws new business and more jobs to this area.

There are many wonderful things happening in our schools every day. Our teachers and children are working hard together to meet the higher expectations before them. We need to continue to provide them with the tools they need to learn, grow and excel.

Please join me by voting “Yes” for our kids and for our local school levy renewals.

Scott K. Jones
