New year, new attitude

As we escaped from 2017 and headed into 2018 I was led to wonder, “Where do we draw the line?”

Everyone has a right to their opinion but do they have the right to a public platform? Evidently The Spokesman-Review thinks so. A person who spews racial slurs or advocates beating his wife would never get a second op-ed in the paper but Steve Massey, who took it upon himself to judge transgender as wrong, under the auspices of religion, writes on.

When do we stop giving religion a pass for judging other people’s truths and then pronouncing them wrong or bad? Yes, he and all who have an ideology have a right to share it with the world, but do we need to validate their opinion — and that’s what it is — by continuing to allow them free rein in a public forum?
