Blanca Blanco, a mixed message
After all of the uproar lately about the way some well-known men have been treating women, I can’t believe that The Spokesman-Review printed the 10-inch, color photo of Blanca Blanco in her disgustingly revealing dress. As the paper said, it certainly “left little to the imagination.” When women wear such attire in public, they are inviting derogatory comments. I have little sympathy for people who dress like that and then complain how they are treated. It is certainly no way to fight against sexual harassment and promote gender equality. Sadly, she was probably just interested in free publicity by wearing something so provocative.
It is very irritating and disappointing that The Spokesman-Review would give such outlandish behavior all of this attention. The paper has printed articles and commentaries against sexual harassment and then sends a mixed message by glamorizing Ms. Blanco’s appearance. Our teens and college-age sons and daughters don’t need our local paper giving prominence to attention seekers exhibiting behaviors that we certainly do not want them to copy.
