Support the LWCF
As a board member of the Washington chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, a national organization focused on our public lands, I was honored to join BHA members from 13 states in Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress about the future of the Land Water Conservation Fund.
In D.C., I met with legislative representatives from Sen. Maria Cantwell’s office and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s office and attended a constituent coffee event with Sen. Patty Murray to advocate for permanent reauthorization of the LWCF. Funded by royalties from energy companies, the LWCF is posited on the idea that, as one resource is depleted, another is sustained. Yet without action by Congress, the LWCF will sunset on Sept. 30.
Every county in the country has benefited from LWCF dollars since 1965, and Spokane is no different. We have received funding for projects in locations like Fishtrap Lake, Dishman Hills, Waterfront Park in Medical Lake and Mount Spokane Trails. The LWCF is vital to conserve pieces of our beautiful state for future generations.
On behalf of BHA, I urge you to contact your elected officials in support of permanent reauthorization of the LWCF.
