Makings of a skilled legislator

In Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ guest editorial of June 26 (“Working to combat America’s opioid crisis”) she proclaims success in half the column for the passing of House bills like they are successfully legislated law - even stating that the House bills have “improved access” despite the fact they have not made it into law. In addition, at one point she claims, “My bill…” but in fact the bill mentioned was representative Mike Kelly’s bill and she was a co-sponsor.

Frequently, when faced with a question from her constituents and in the guest editorial she states “I have introduced legislation” or a similar statement. Her obfuscation, exaggerations and deception hide her failure as a legislator. Introducing legislation or the passing of a House bill is not an accomplishment. Getting a law passed is. This requires legislative skill.

Lisa Brown is a skilled legislator and has a long record of working across party lines in our state legislature getting bills into laws that have helped Spokane. Because of her skill she was recruited to be Spokane WSU chancellor and to facilitate the creation of our local WSU medical school. She successfully delivered another new great asset to our community.
