Memorial location unique

The Spokesman-Review article of June 11 (“City considering moving its Vietnam memorial to the Spokane Arena”) says there is talk of moving the Vietnam Memorial from its location in Riverfront Park to Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. The city is seeking input from veterans. Here is my input:

I came here from Vietnam in 1971. I got to go back in 1973. I still live in Spokane and love it. I was at the dedication of the memorial. Many friends have their names on the memorial. Luckily, my name is not there. The location in the park is unique and special. The view fits the mood of the memorial. I would like to see the memorial stay where it was planted. In 50 years (maybe less), when all of us Vietnam vets are gone, move the memorial as the community desires.
