A park would serve all

Our neighborhood is situated west of the Glenrose area between Chase Middle School and Ferris High. The only access to our homes is via 37th Avenue.

We have learned not to attempt leaving or returning to the neighborhood when school begins or ends. The road becomes heavily congested and it is very difficult to come and go with hordes of school buses, students driving cars and parents picking up their children. It doesn’t help that 37th is a two-lane road with four-way stops causing heavy backups at these times.

Spokane Youth Sports Association intends to build a sports complex on 37th Avenue with parking for 400 cars. Since the baseball tournaments, etc., occurring there will be scheduled events, SYSA apparently anticipates that 37th can accommodate an abrupt surge of 400 automobiles when activities begin or end, in addition to the floods of traffic from the schools.

Perhaps SYSA would consider a park to serve the general public, rather than sports teams, so it may be enjoyed by everyone and additional bursts of gridlock traffic may be avoided. Besides, anyone familiar with Glenrose can perceive how inappropriate a facility with stadium lighting and loudspeakers would be in this peaceful, pastoral area.
