Working moms appeal
I’ve watched the ads and read that our congressional representative candidates are “highlight[ing] their roles as working moms” to help working families. Upon research, Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ votes disappointed me: most are against working moms and families - from education, health care, taxes, workplace inequalities, violence against women, assistance, to retirement.
I want a well-rounded education for my children, but in Olympia, Cathy sponsored bills to end new schools’ public arts funding. On health care, Cathy voted to let insurance companies raise premiums or drop your policy when you’re ill, and continues voting to let them deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. She voted to increase future taxes on many middle-class and low-income families to pay for the largest tax cut ever for the wealthiest 1 percent.
Cathy voted against protecting women from workplace pay inequalities, and has supported bills restoring guns to stalkers and a Violence Against Women Act re-authorization version excluding some of the most likely groups to experience violence. She has voted to cut food and health care assistance for needy families, and has voted for huge cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
Maybe the 10,000 individual contributors to Lisa Brown are onto something.
