Council monkey business

What is going on with the Spokane Valley City Council?

At a council meeting the evening of July 3, out of the blue, Mayor Rod Higgins made a motion to remove Councilman Ben Wick from two committees for which he was eminently qualified. The motion was not on the council agenda. Mayor Higgins and three other councilmen voted in favor of the motion.

No prior notice of the motion was given to the other three councilmen, including Ben Wick. No prior notice was afforded the public to comment on the motion. The motion was not made in the ordinary course of council business. The manner in which Mayor Higgins’ motion was made seems to be an abuse of his discretion, contrary to transparency, and an affront to the spirit of open meeting laws. Something is very wrong.
